Testimonies of Healing

In the fall of 1914 I was stricken with what the doctors called heart trouble. After doctoring a while and getting worse, I tried to use Christian Science and medicine together; but this failed to do any good.

It has come to me very clearly that if one is to "owe no man," it will be necessary to know a higher meaning than that we are just to pay our financial and social obligations. I have been thinking of the debt of gratitude I owe to God, to the Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving to the world the truth which heals all mankind of the multitude of ills, discords, and inharmonies to which the world is in bondage.

I know that every Christian Scientist is grateful for every testimony of healing. I have enjoyed the experiences of others so much and they have been such a help to me, that I also desire to glorify God by telling of some of the blessings I have received since taking up the study of Christian Science.

When Christian Science was first brought to my notice some twelve years ago, I was not looking for any particular physical healing, but it was not long before I was able to apply its glorious teaching to minor physical defects that were quickly overcome. Being a son of the manse, I was, as one might say, brought up in the faith, and although I had taken an active part in ordinary church work of the old faith, including Sunday school, social reform, and temperance, I was not satisfied; nor indeed had I a reason for the faith that was in me.

Since hearing of Christian Science three years ago, I have been instantly healed of appendicitis with the help of a friend, a practitioner not being available at the time, also of numerous other ills, including a serious condition of the eyes. I was wearing three pairs of glasses when I entered Christian Science, and was confronted with possible blindness.

It has come to me repeatedly of late that I have not been bringing all my tithes into the storehouse of our Father, as I never have written a testimony for our periodicals, and feel quite overwhelmed to think of it when I recount manifold blessings that I have received since coming into this blessed truth, almost eighteen years ago. At that time I was healed in five or six treatments of partial paralysis of the bowels and of hemorrhoids, and my daughter of four months was also healed of bowel trouble.

Nine years ago my first testimony was published in the Journal, and it certainly is time I once more publicly expressed gratitude for a further bountiful unfolding of good. One day a great longing arose to have class instruction, and this promise stood out with startling clearness, "No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

In December, 1917, my wife and I noticed a considerable change in our daughter. From being very lively child, she became sad and silent.

Having received so much good from reading the testimonies of others, it is my earnest desire to add mine, in the hope that it may help some one. Over four years ago as a last resort I turned to Christian Science for help and was healed in one treatment, although I took two more treatments afterwards for general help.

During the period of eight years in which we have been studying Christian Science, we have had many things to be grateful for. Physically, mentally, and financially it has met every demand.
