Testimonies of Healing

Over five years ago I had a fall on the ice, which, seven months later, developed into an abscess of the spine, causing what the doctors called necrosis of the bone, which, according to their decree, necessitated an operation. After months of intense suffering and hospital life,— being sent there the second time,— I was pronounced incurable in that climate, and was sent to mountainous Colorado to try climate and altitude for tuberculosis.

From childhood I never was strong and well, and I can scarcely remember a time when I was not taking medicine for some ache or pain, which sometimes helped, but more often did not. While I was not bedridden, yet the good times most young girls have were denied me.

About three years and a half ago, whilst seeking for the very best I could find in the way of religion, I became interested in some Christian Science literature which had been placed in the public library at Akron, O. After reading Science and Health, I looked up the Christian Science Reading Room, where I was kindly received, and where I became a daily visitor.

The knowledge of Christian Science came to me through the gentle ministrations of its healing power. For about fifteen years I had suffered from asthma, not continuously, but with attacks lasting from a few days to a few months.

About eighteen years ago I was first taken with nervous prostration. I was confined to my bed nine months.

It is twelve years or more since I became a reader of the Christian Science text-book. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.

I was frail and sickly from my childhood, fettered by the belief that I had inherited all the ailments of my ancestors on both sides of the family, many of whom had passed away with that dreaded disease, consumption, and I was taught that I must of necessity become a victim of the same. The atmosphere of my home was extremely religious.

I feel I must make a public acknowledgment of the wonderful blessings I have received through this truth. From childhood I was always expressing illness of some kind, the doctors declaring that some of the troubles were hereditary, and although I had several severe operations, and everything was done to relieve me that the best medical skill could think of, I would be better for a time only, to fall back again into the most awful suffering.

Since reading the testimonies in the Christian Science Sentinel which has just arrived, I know I should delay no longer in gratefully acknowledging what Christian Science has done for me. I was never considered a hopeless invalid, but all my life I had suffered with tonsilitis, some form of nervous involuntary action, severe headaches, stomach trouble, and fully half the time I was considered "run down.

FOR many years before my attention was called especially to Christian Science, I had known that there existed such a movement, and although I had not carefully investigated its teachings, yet, like many others whom I have met and talked with since, I assumed to know all about it, and endorsed all the current criticism concerning it. I had formed a speculative belief about Christian Science, that it was a compound of all that was objectionable in all the different religious denominations, not including my own, which was then, to me, the only one exempt from fault.
