Testimonies of Healing
All during my childhood I tried to find the answer to "Who or what is God?" Much of my childish conception of Deity was tainted by fear. My parents couldn't help me, nor could my Sunday School teachers in the church we then attended.
Healings in Christian Science are often instant, but sometimes deeper study and spiritual lessons precede the completion of a healing. As I have relied on Science since I was a small child, my gratitude is great for many instantaneous or quick healings.
From the time I was a young woman I had occasional bouts with depression. This happened when I felt unable to cope with things.
While serving as Second Reader in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I developed the symptoms of laryngitis on a Friday evening. Saturday morning I called a Christian Science practitioner, and within two hours I could talk without effort.
Not long after the end of the Second World War, I tried to destroy my own life. My submission to so-called laws of heredity, inferiority complexes, circumstances connected with family disharmony, and war disturbances had caused deep depression and finally despair.
When I was a small boy, I received my first proof of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. While riding my new tricycle I went over the handlebars and landed face first on the pavement.
I had been striving for a healing of warts on my hand for over a year. Little progress had been made, probably because my main desire was for physical comfort rather than spiritual growth.
Before I found Christian Science, life was a puzzle to me. The mortal cycle of birth, growth, maturity, and decay depressed me.
"Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared" ( Ex. 23:20 ).
I feel like shouting from the housetops, "Arthritis sufferers, take heart—Christian Science does heal!" In February of 1977 I came home from work one day suffering from severe pain in my back and other alarming symptoms. I called a Christian Science practitioner to ask for treatment, but despite my own prayer and the work of the practitioner, the painful condition persisted during the next few months.
