Testimonies of Healing
Three years ago, when living and working in Lebanon, I started feeling some pain in my right shoulder. Absorbed by my work and daily activities, I must confess, I did not take time to reject the erroneous belief that matter has intelligence and to pray about the situation.
Over half a century ago, I was a student at a junior college in Illinois about 40 miles outside of Chicago. I played on the school’s baseball team.
I was skiing over a weekend, having a great time with my brother as we swooshed down trails of fresh powdered snow at Lake Tahoe. At one point, though, I fell down in a way that twisted my knee badly.
A while ago, I had a severe itching problem. I would wake up in the middle of the night and start uncontrollably scratching my hands, arms, and feet.
A number of years ago, I resigned from my job as an editor, looking forward to working from home. During one of my last days at work, I suddenly had severe pains in my chest.
For me, the following statement has been an important guide when giving Christian Science treatment: “To be immortal, we must forsake the mortal sense of things, turn from the lie of false belief to Truth, and gather the facts of being from the divine Mind” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 370 ).
Many years ago, when I was first introduced to Christian Science, I was a member of a Congregational church; but I began attending a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, on Wednesday evenings and would go to the local Christian Science Reading Room on Saturdays to talk with the librarian. Having been given a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I found the concepts, many of which were contrary to the doctrine I had absorbed in the Congregational denomination, difficult to understand at first.
One weekend three years ago, I was doing some yardwork in the woods. All of a sudden, my left arm was stung by a hornet.
I’ve had several instantaneous healings in my experience as a Christian Scientist. This healing took slightly over twenty years—but the instant the error was identified and then handled in Christian Science, it completely dissipated! About two decades ago, several difficult life circumstances hit me simultaneously.
My mother sought out Christian Science when I was in high school. One hour in a Christian Science Sunday School class was enough for me to realize that this teaching was something I wanted in my life.
