Testimonies of Healing

From the December 1907 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Long weary years had stretched before me, with their joys and sorrows, their hopes and doubts, their successes and failures; but as they glided by. the book of life seemed to have an increasing balance in favor' of doubt and fear, sorrow and sickness, and at last the account became so sadly awry that human existence was no longer easy or even desirable, and the consequences were disastrous. With these disasters came stomach, liver, and kidney trouble, with all its attending pain and depression. Soon there was added the ravages of medicine, and yet year after year wore wearily on in search of a panacea for these ills; but the search was fruitless. With all this there was a careless unconcern as to my future; little interest as to my departure or residence on this plane came as a result of perpetual sleep that took possession of me, and my only desire was to be abandoned to my fate. Friends would whisper of the great hope in Christ, Truth, the Love that knows no hate and the Life that knows no death; but it all seemed like a dream that was naught of mine. Then I found that the dove of peace had nestled in my consciousness, and a voice in the wilderness whispered the joys of Spirit and carried me unto the fold of the great Shepherd. The hush of Christian Science was upon me, and I heard no more the cries of sorrow and pain.—only the voice of Truth and Love calling the children of men to where they might find rest. The pride of the eye and the lust of the flesh were no more heard from, and peace reigned in the heart. "Lo, I am with you alway," is heard by all who believe on Christ's holy name; and unto them that follow the truth shall be given a robe of white; their mental home be made white with purity,—cleansed of the flesh. In healing us Truth purifies our mentality of all poisonous thoughts, all cankerous hatred and resentment, and in proportion to this cleansing do our bodies reflect the glory of God in health and strength and righteousness.

That I may speak one word, that I may reflect the light, help to make straight the path of those whose feet are turned toward the city of our God, wherein abideth forever the truth of Christian Science, is my daily prayer. "Peace, be still," shall ring down the centuries until the word of our beloved Leader shall be heard in every land and all mankind be united in one glorious band, fulfilling the Christ-command to heal the sick, reclaim the sinner, and raise the dead.—
