I desire to return thanks for a beautiful demonstration of the power of Truth which I had while spending a fortnight's holiday in the island of Jersey. I arrived there from England on Saturday, Aug. 19, and on Monday I went to the Christian Science reading-room to meet some one. We departed together, and in passing a building where scaffolding was erected a workman's hammer fell on my foot with great force, causing me to cry out with pain; but I immediately took up the thought that there could be no accidents in God's kingdom, and declared the truth strongly, the lady who was with me also giving me a little help. I went on with her and was able to walk back, but after dinner that evening my foot became so painful that I was obliged to go to my room. I read Science and Health quietly and worked to know the truth, although I could not bear to put my foot on the ground. I went to bed, declaring the truth with my last waking thought, and the next morning my foot was perfectly healed, except for a small cut which could still be seen. I was able to go out the next day, took a long walk in the afternoon, and was not at all inconvenienced by the accident during the remainder of my holiday.
This is, however, only a very little of what Christian Science has done for me. I was instantaneously healed, after many years of suffering, of an abnormal growth which had caused me great pain. I was very susceptible to cold, as I had had peritonitis, which the doctor told me always leaves a weakness from which I could never be cured; but I have not had a doctor or taken any medicine for four years, and I am perfectly well and strong. I am able to work all day, and often late into the night, without growing weary. For the peace and happiness that have come into my life I am indeed grateful to God, and also thankful for the life of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy.— Oxford, England.
