It is now over three years since I first became interested in Christian Science, and I love to tell of what it has done for me. At the time when a friend of mine told me of Christian Science and urged me strongly to try it, I was in very poor health and had been sick for a number of years. I had never been very strong, and in 1900 lung trouble set in, while later on stomach, bowel, and kidney troubles became my constant companions. As time passed, conditions steadily grew worse. There were very few things I could eat; I was altogether unable to do my housework, on account of the pain in my lungs, and when I used my hands for any work I had hemorrhages. It is useless to tell of the suffering which seemed to be my lot both day and night during all that time.
While in this condition I called on a Christian Science practitioner for help, not knowing in the least what this truth had in store for an earnest seeker besides the physical healing. This practitioner treated me for some time, and I was helped somewhat, so that I was able to do a little work; but as time passed and conditions were still very serious, I discontinued treatment, discouraged and not knowing what to do. Yet I could not leave the books alone, and the Bible and Science and Health with the Quarterly became my daily companions. I studied and worked the best I knew how, and I grew stronger, so that I was able to do quite a little work during the winter months; but as spring advanced, the troubles seemed to become worse and conditions were quite alarming. I then called on another practitioner. She treated me faithfully for about six months, with these results: the cough is gone; I can use my arms and hands in working every day; my kidneys are all right; the stomach and bowel troubles are gone, and I can eat anything I wish without pain or bowel disturbance; I have also been relieved of a skin disease and attacks of illness which had tormented me terribly every winter heretofore. Before having any knowledge of Christian Science, I had relied on the doctors' kind advice and used their medicines; also other remedies, all I could possibly afford to get. While these at times seemed to help me, they all failed to bring either lasting help or cure. My healing in Christian Science came slowly but surely; and I am glad and thankful for the same, as it has taught me many a valuable lesson which would not have been mine had the healing come instantaneously.
For all the help, the love, and the kindness which this truth has brought me, I am very thankful, as well as for the Journal and Sentinel, which are of greater help to me daily than I can tell.—Duluth, Minn.
