In loving gratitude for the awakening to newness of life which Christian Science has brought to me, I send this testimony as a faint indication of thankfulness for blessings received, for very often our deepest healings must go unvoiced. Only the heart itself knows what hidden springs have been released, what purgings and purifyings have been effected within, by this searchlight of Truth, laying bare waste places often unknown to ourselves.
Such release, althought it be unsuspected by those near and dear to us (ignorant alike of the waste place or its subsequent restoration), of necessity results in greater compassion for others still in bondage, greater discernment of their needs, and longings unspeakable to have others share in what has been of such immense benefit to us. Then comes the lesson so hardly learned at first,—to live the truth rather than to discuss it; to demonstrate "the facts of Soul in Jesus' way" (Science and Health, p. 428); to learn gradually that the world does not pay heed to words but will take note of actions; and then to take up that hitherto unregarded thing, humility, which is, of course, self-effacement, and learn in wonderment that humility is power.
The lessons that Christian Science teaches are so manifold, so crystal clear, so applicable, so ready to be put into practice! One of my chief difficulties before coming into Science was the many-sided points of view most questions presented, making decision not only difficult but vacillating. I never saw clearly the difference between right and wrong until Christian Science presented God to me as Principle, immutable and unvarying, perfect and unalterable. Provided thus with a touchstone, good and evil fell far apart in my consciousness, cleaved asunder forever by the sharp sword of Truth.
