FROM THE DIRECTORS

[As published in the Christian Science Sentinel of October 15, 1927]

From the December 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Most of the railroads in the United States, except those in New England, grant a "clergy fare" or reduced rate to ministers and certain other classes of persons engaged exclusively in religious work. This rate is, therefore, available to "First Readers of Christian Science churches who have no other gainful occupation than the ministry of Christian Science." To get the advantage of this rate, First Readers who are eligible for it need to apply for and obtain a "clergy fare certificate." This certificate is issued in different sections of the United States, by bureaus representing the principal railroads in the respective sections, to those whose applications are accompanied by letters of credentials from The Christian Science Board of Directors. Any ticket agent can either furnish an application form or give the address of the bureau from which an application form may be obtained. The Directors are prepared to furnish further information to those who may be eligible, and they should be consulted before an application is filed with the Clergy Bureau. Letters should be addressed to The Christian Science Board of Directors, 206 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts.

The teachings of the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the other writings by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, furnish more spiritual food than has been fully assimilated by anyone in this age. Hence there is no good reason why a professed Christian Scientist should be eager to seize with avidity anything Mrs. Eddy is reputed to have said or done that she herself has not made public.
