A PEOPLE RISING

From the December 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When men to light attuned see with their eyes,
Then everywhere the works of God beheld
Reveal the kingdom prophesied of old
Coming to men; for into it they rise,
Foreswear ignoble deeds, and darkful lies;
And loving light, by love for Love are held;
And loving Love, find burning hatred quelled;
Hence freedom know, and peacefully are wise.

Whom God exalts, they are the only free;
And noble they who lift their thoughts on high;
When tears are wiped away, then eyes may see;
When hearts can hate no more, then heaven is nigh.
Arise, ye people! free from your despairs;
Arise and shine and breathe the heavenly airs!
