Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science found me in...

From the January 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science found me in what is referred to as "man's extremity." After an illness of six months, seven weeks of which were spent in a hospital under the care of a specialist, it was decided that I should be operated upon. I was practically an invalid, could do no work at all, and required someone to wait on me and the children. Our funds were completely exhausted. In this darkest hour a stranger informed me that Christian Science could heal me, and that I did not need either an operation or medicine. I was greatly surprised to hear this, and on learning where the Christian Science church was, I attended the Wednesday evening testimony meeting the following day. Then and there I realized a great sense of joy and felt that all our troubles would be cast out in the way God appointed. I borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read for hours at a time. My health was rapidly regained. I was able to do all my own work, and our financial condition improved so quickly that we could hardly realize it.

All this took place nearly eight years ago, and since then we have relied on the power of Truth, as taught in Christian Science, to solve every problem that has come to us; and when properly applied it has never failed. While listening to a lecture on Christian Science my husband was completely and permanently healed of a serious eye trouble of years' standing, and has not had to wear glasses again. When I had been studying Christian Science only two months our two children were taken with bronchial pneumonia, and through the help of a practitioner were completely healed within twenty-four hours. This is only one of the numerous healings experienced in our family. Many times we have been protected from disaster by realizing the allness of God, good, and the nothingness of error.

Some time ago, when I was leaving an elevated train with my three-year-old son, his foot caught in the door rail. I tried in vain to release his little foot, and before I knew it the train had started. I tried to know the allness of God's presence and kept on pulling at his foot, when a voice seemed to whisper to me to let go. I immediately did so and ran along the platform shouting, "Stop the train." I did not look back, but seemed lifted out of the whole disturbance, knowing that the boy would not be hurt. My plea was heard, and the train stopped after going a distance of some twenty feet. When they handed me my son I declared the truth, that God's child could not be hurt; and I am so happy to say that there was but a slight scratch on his leg.
