For twenty-one years I suffered from gallstone cramp, sciatica, and rheumatism; so that for weeks I was confined to my bed, suffering intense pain. To this, some years later, was added asthma, which became so aggravated that I could hardly move about even on level ground. I tried many material remedies, such as inhalations, hot compresses, and so on, but without any success worth mentioning. Then one night in 1920 I had a choking fit. The doctor, who feared the worst, was with me for several hours and administered several medicines, among others an opiate which gave me temporary relief; but as remedies these were powerless, and I had to continue enduring all these complaints. I was desperate, and expected release only through death.
In 1924 I heard of Christian Science. I immediately asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, and after the second treatment was completely healed. I had gained an entirely new understanding of God, and this enabled me to overcome other errors also, such as erysipelas on my face and head and an internal injury incurred by falling down stairs.
For the proof of divine Love manifested in the healings I have experienced in Christian Science, I am sincerely grateful to God. I think with reverence of Mary Baker Eddy, who through her stupendous work and self-sacrifice has illumined the Christ-way for us.
