Testimonies of Healing

It is with a deep sense of humility...

From the January 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a deep sense of humility that I express my gratitude for Christian Science. I was never considered a very strong child, and as time went on and I grew to womanhood my health began to fail. I had prepared myself to be a teacher, but after I had taught for several years my health became worse. I consulted the best local physician in regard to the ailment, and after making a thorough examination he told me I had tuberculosis. For three years I kept at my work because I knew of nothing else that I was capable of doing. At last I decided to rest for a year, so as to be able to work again. During this time I was led to take up the study of Christian Science, and was healed in two weeks. I immediately found work which I greatly enjoyed, and which kept me closely occupied for nine hours each day. This work was the exact opposite of what mortal mind would have had one do in order to recuperate, but I steadily gained in health and in a very short time felt like a different person, as indeed I was. Since beginning the study of Christian Science I have really commenced to live.

I was the only one out of a very large family who was interested in Christian Science, and there was a great deal of opposition to meet. Many times the way seemed dark, but there was always a gleam of light which led on to a better understanding of the truth. At the passing on of a little son, the way was made bright through the understanding of God as Love. Six years ago a malady presented itself. A physician pronounced it a tumor and advised an immediate operation. I had no intention of having one, and asked for treatment in Christian Science. To those who may get discouraged, let me say it was four years before this tumor entirely disappeared; but I learned many beautiful lessons. During these years two babies were born to us. During this time also, when one of the children seemed at the point of death with Bright's disease, a practitioner two hundred miles away was called over the telephone. The child was healed in a very short time, and missed only a week of school. At another time the baby manifested a disease and it seemed as though he would not be with us long, but we held constantly to the truth and he was healed, and is now a healthy, strong boy.

One of our sons had his arm broken while playing football. A dear friend who saw the accident declared the truth for him, and he was relieved of all pain to the extent of insisting that he see the rest of the game played before having the bone set. When the physician examined the arm he said that the bone had set itself and the only thing he needed to do was to put a splint on the arm. For this healing we were very grateful.
