After graduating from an eastern college, I went to California, where I spent two years in the business world, years of disillusionment, illhealth, and extreme unhappiness. I had suffered from poor health all through college, but did not realize until later how closely linked were my experiences of sickness with a depressed and unhappy state of mind.
I heeded a friend's advice, and sought out a Christian Science practitioner in Pasadena, for I felt that I had stood all the anguish and suffering I could bear. From the first treatment I received I felt that I was on totally new ground. I learned that I could in no wise be separated from the care and love of God, divine Mind. I began gradually to mend old habits of criticizing others, hating my neighbor, pitying myself, habits of mortal mind which rob us of our God-given right to enjoy health, happiness, and a joyous love of our fellow man.
I am more grateful than I could ever express in speech or writing for having found the teaching of Christian Science. I have been beautifully guided and protected during the past seven years. The path from the depths back to a place comparatively far along the road to spiritual enlightenment has not been an easy one. Experiences which would ordinarily have embittered me have served instead to teach me humility and teachableness, a willingness to let God govern my life, instead of trying to plan it all out in advance myself. I marvel at the infinite wisdom of the all-knowing Mind, God; and I can truthfully say that at last I am willing to follow Mind's leadings, and to rely on God, Love, for protection.
