UNITY AND DEMOCRACY

From the October 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Christian Science is to be found the final and complete revelation of Truth. In this Science, when understood, lie the remedy for every ill, the solution of every problem, and the fulfillment of every righteous hope and desire. At the present time the realization and demonstration of the truth, as it is revealed in Christian Science, is small in comparison with the immense possibility of its unfoldment. Every student, however, is profoundly grateful for having glimpsed the truth, and his gratitude mounts as his understanding of Christian Science increases.

Thinkers in all parts of the world are confronted today with a problem of vital import, one which concerns the well-being of both individuals and nations. The menace is war. No clear thinker desires war; no one could remain unaffected by it. Therefore, everyone should do all in his power to avert it. Everyone, directly or indirectly, is responsible for doing his part in the establishing of universal peace.

War is primarily a mental state of dissension; peace is spiritually mental, a state of love, harmony, and understanding. A nation is made up of individuals, and it largely expresses the thought and temper of those individuals. To each one, then, comes a mighty challenge to concern himself intelligently with the establishment of world peace. Christian Science shows the way, and offers the solution. Only through the understanding and utilization of divine Principle, as revealed in Christian Science, can enduring peace be attained.
