Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science came to me...

From the January 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came to me in answer to my desire for Truth, when I was living in one of the country districts of Western Australia. I had been reading library books for about three years, but it became more and more difficult to find a book worth reading, though new ones arrived every month. Often on my way to the library I would lift my thoughts to God and ask to be led to a book that would help me. One evening the librarian said, "Do you know anything about Christian Science?" I replied, "No, I have not heard about it and do not know what it is." The librarian informed me that a letter had come from some society, asking permission to place some books on the library shelves. I advised the acceptance of the books. From then onwards a stirring expectation filled me, so that I asked every week if the books had come.

When the parcel arrived, it was found to contain two large and several smaller books on Christian Science, amongst them "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur. I chose the latter first. It was very interesting, and I eagerly looked forward to reading the other book. When I opened Science and Health and read the first two lines of the Preface, (p. vii) "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," I laid the book down, and my heart was lifted in thankfulness. I knew this book would teach me all I had been seeking to know. And so it proved. When the events of daily living clouded the mountaintops of spiritual understanding, I had again and again to remind myself of the words of Christ Jesus, "Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart."

During the past twenty years the study of Science and Health, together with Mrs. Eddy's other works, has made these mountaintops appreciably clearer, and the way to their heights becomes more defined.
