THE EMPIRE OF MIND

From the January 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

That men and nations may pass through the troubled waters of this period into smoother seas, there is great need that their governments should be based upon righteousness, need that men should be mindful of the source of stability and prosperity, that faith, understanding, and strength necessary to meet the difficulties be forthcoming.

Each country is representative of the thinking of its citizens. Nations are great whose governments honor God, and whose people are law-abiding, respecting the rights of all. "For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations." Since God is the infinite One, there is but one kingdom and government, because all that is real belongs to Him who made all things. The right understanding of man and of his relation to God ends greed, selfishness, strife, misunderstanding, hatred, want, and woe, and reveals the priceless heritage our great Master brought to earth in his demonstration of "peace, good will toward men."

Jesus' earthly experience, though exceedingly eventful, was invariably peaceful and well-ordered. His works were performed without labor, hesitation, or fear. Whether in healing the sick, casting out demons, feeding the hungry in desert places, raising the dead, or defending himself from his adversaries, the Master's trust in God was absolute, and his speech and actions were impressive and effective. He recognized no other power than Spirit, divine intelligence, and every claim of evil fell before his understanding of the supremacy of God, Spirit, and the perfection of His idea, spiritual man.
