Christian Science was brought to my notice in 1923, when a Scientist came to board with us. I was in very poor health, for I was having periodic attacks of headache, asthma, and hay fever. I received decided help from this Christian Scientist during some two or three years. However, my interest was spasmodic.
In the fall of 1926 I bought the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and took up the study of Christian Science more earnestly, but I still did not rely unreservedly on it for help. In the spring and summer of 1931 I was weak and nervous. I spent much time on my bed and had to have help with my housework. Our family physician pronounced me a tuberculosis victim. One of the best surgeons of the Southwest told me I also had a goiter.
In August of the same year, 1931, my husband's work came to an end on account of an age limit, so we had to move, since we had had no income other than his wages. We came to northwest Arkansas and moved into a little house in the country. I had few callers and went out very little. This gave me time to think and pray. I began to study Christian Science earnestly and systematically. Science and Health was my daily companion. In two years I had gained in weight, my cough was gone, and my neck was normal. This healing came about through my reading. I had no other help. I have had much wonderful help since then. Such minor ills as cuts, burns, and effects from falls have all been healed instantly.
