"THE VISION INFINITE"

From the January 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the course of ordinary experience, human perspective seems to be limited to the horizon of things material. The interests of many are so restricted that their outlook does not exceed the boundaries of their neighborhood or city. Others, with broader worldly opportunity, compass ocean and continent. But while thought is largely absorbed in promoting the interests of material selfhood, or is involved in the pressing responsibilities of the world's activities to the exclusion of spiritual considerations, the light of infinite Truth is hidden. Moreover, when with momentary effulgence a spiritual gleam pierces the clouds of materiality, its revelation may not be accepted as of practical value because thought is uninstructed as to its heavenly import. Hence the ravagings of ignorance, sin, fear, disease, and poverty make serious inroads upon the lives of men.

But Christian Science brings a new perspective! Founded upon spiritual facts, this Christly teaching broadens one's outlook and improves human capabilities through spiritual understanding. Indeed, it reveals the purely divine foundation from which may be viewed and demonstrated the truth of infinite being.

Being wholly practical, Christian Science does not present hypothetical considerations. Its premises are clear, sound, teachable, and its conclusions are irrefutable, being supported by practical proof of the unity which exists between God and His spiritual idea, man. With remarkable spiritual clarity, Mary Baker Eddy, our inspired Leader, declares the infinite scope of the real, spiritual man's possibilities, when she says on page 258 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook of Christian Science: "God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis. Mind manifests all that exists in the infinitude of Truth. We know no more of man as the true divine image and likeness, than we know of God." Thus it is made clear that Christianly scientific demonstration unfolds progressively through improved spiritual perspective.
