"ACCORDING TO HIS WILL IN THE ARMY OF HEAVEN"

From the January 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

On page 256 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Who is it that demands our obedience? He who, in the language of Scripture, 'doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest Thou?'" What strength lies in these words: "demands our obedience"!

In order to advance our Cause we must gain the clear vision of man and the universe as God's idea, a concept utterly apart from material sense. Under the marginal heading "Divine reflection," Mrs. Eddy gives the following definition (ibid., p.115): "Idea: An image in Mind; the immediate object of understanding. —Webster." One cannot find spiritual understanding in matter, but only as a quality of Mind, God, the creator of man as His idea.

It is important that we see and acknowledge our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as the revelator of Truth in this age, as God's inspired messenger. She alone is our Leader, and her revelation enables us to see man as God's idea. Amidst the seeming dangers and differing opinions which are knocking at the door of human consciousness, waiting to obtain entrance, men look everywhere to find a true sense of safety. Where can one find any comfort except in the Christ, Truth, as revealed in Christian Science?
