Just as the coming of dawn dispels the darkness of night, and in its place all becomes flooded with light, just so the errors of material sense—sin, disease, sorrow, limitation, aggression—are swept away as the true sense of the Christ, Truth, dawns upon the human consciousness.
There is no darkness in the presence of light. Likewise, there is no sickness in the presence of Life, no fear in the presence of Love, no false belief in the presence of Truth, no evil in Spirit. But Life, Love, Truth, Spirit, are ever present, and their antipodes—death, hatred, false suggestions, matter—are never present. They cannot be present, for Spirit, good, fills all space.
Christian Science teaches the unreality of matter, as lifeless, powerless, nonexistent. There is no matter. Man lives in Love, infinite, universal, all-encompassing, immortal Love. It is absolutely impossible for infinite Spirit to dwell in finite matter. Therefore man, Spirit's reflection, does not exist in matter. Man is incorporeal, Godlike; he is individual consciousness, the expression of infinite Mind. Man is faultless, diseaseless, sinless, deathless. Man. whose faculties are spiritual, is entirely independent of matter. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 486): "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence." If man could lose his divinely bestowed faculties he would not be Love's image. But man is never less than the perfect child of the perfect Father.
