The sacred Scriptures contain statements which clearly reveal the indisputable fact that God is Spirit, and that omnipotent, omnipresent Spirit is the only real cause, the origin, source, or divine Principle from which emanates all that actually exists. In the Gospel according to John is the definite pronouncement, without the slightest ambiguity, that everything that was created was made by God, Spirit, the divine Word. This declaration of positive truth leaves no room for the belief that another creator or creation could be real.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science textbook, this momentous statement (p. 170): "Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress. The age seems ready to approach this subject, to ponder somewhat the supremacy of Spirit, and at least to touch the hem of Truth's garment." In pondering the question of spiritual causation, if one's reasoning is correct, one cannot fail to arrive at the conclusion that the effect of a spiritual cause must be wholly spiritual, perfect, and good.
The teachings of Christian Science are reasonable, understandable, demonstrable; and notwithstanding the fact that no one, excepting Christ Jesus, has fully demonstrated the truth of eternal life, that which has been proved true is forever capable of proof. Anyone who solves a problem in simple arithmetic has in this measure proved to himself that the whole science of mathematics is demonstrable. Problems of greater magnitude will be solved proportionately as one gains in understanding through study and practice.
