"FOR THEM ALSO WHICH SHALL BELIEVE"

From the October 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Can it be true the Master prayed for me?
Dear God, how gracious are Thy mercies free!
He, the Beloved, strong and unafraid,
Facing the cross—yet with those seeing eyes
Beholding, just beyond, the victory won—
Stayed for a moment in his heavenward course
To pray for those who followed him, e'en there,
Then prayed for me.

On through the ages does that prayer ascend
To intercede for them ''which shall believe."
Then came the promised Holy Comforter,
Science divine, the law of Love supreme,
Revealing Father-Mother God. The true
Idea—shining through this gracious prayer—
Saviour, Comforter, Christ Science, these now
Illumine us.

Fearlessly then we face oncoming years;
The good remains, the mists will roll away.
God's love abounds! Nor might nor height nor depth
Can separate us from the love of God.
Thus, as the world awakens from its dream.
With thought illumined, with understanding clear,
Lifting our hearts in speechless gratitude,
We pray for all.
