THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW WAY

From the October 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is only one way to heaven, and that is the way which our Master showed us, and which Christian Science enables us to demonstrate. The straight and narrow way is the one approved of God. This way appears limited and narrow to mortal mind, because it does not permit indulgence in sin, sickness, and death; yet while it appears narrow to mortal mind, it is as broad as infinity itself. It demonstrates divine Principle, or God. The so-called broad way is the mesmeric and wrong path of mortal mind's choosing.

In Matthew's Gospel we have this account: "And they [the Pharisees] sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth." Naturally "the way of God" is true, expressing the divine facts of the universe. Christ Jesus claimed and proved that the truth which he taught and expressed was the only way to the Father, and thus through his demonstration he became "the way, the truth, and the life." He opened the way by his sacrifice and demonstration, whereby men, through their acceptance and demonstration of the truth about God and about themselves, may enter into the holy presence of divine Love.

For years this way had seemed to be barred, until our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave us her discovery in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It appeared that mortal mind had locked the door to the kingdom of heaven, but the "key" which we have swings it open so that we may enter through understanding the one and only way of demonstrating God's allness.
