My first healing in Christian Science was an instantaneous one. I was of pre-school age, suffering from mastoid trouble and a broken eardrum. My mother knew something of Christian Science, but she was reluctant to omit the medicines and cotton which were applied each night. She finally turned to it, however, and that night a Christian Science treatment was given. I slept all night, and in the morning awoke completely healed. My hearing has remained normal, and I have scored high grades in ear training in music, whereas it had been said that I should always be partially deaf.
Christian Science helped me when I had smallpox. I felt quite all right, and the disease was soon over. My only difficulty has been to explain why I have no smallpox scars when I ask to be exempt from vaccinations.
When I was a child, returning from school one afternoon, a man stopped me, made unseemly remarks, and refused to let me go by. I did the only thing I could think of. I repeated aloud the "Daily Prayer" from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy (Art. VIII, Sect. 4). The man looked puzzled and stepped aside. My turning to Truth was my protection.
