"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." It is with great pleasure that I testify to the truthfulness of this statement as found on page vii of the Preface to the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
Although from my youth I was reared to fear God, I grew somewhat skeptical and dissatisfied with the various professional ways of worship. This was especially so at the end of the last World War, when belief in God's existence began to lessen considerably in me, and I preferred not to talk of anything pertaining to theology.
However, in 1933, Christian Science was introduced to me by a friend, who gave me a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel. I had been searching vainly for health by means of herbalists, medicines, summer resorts, and so on, had reached, the last ebb financially, and had lost human hope and endeavor. When asked if I would read the Sentinel I replied, "On my word, I promise to read it from cover to cover," and I kept my word.
