A number of years ago a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, was given to me by a dear friend who is a Christian Scientist. At the time I was suffering from stomach trouble, which had bothered me from childhood. I was unable to eat anything but the simplest foods. Terrible headaches prostrated me, and I resorted to every kind of medicine I could find, with no help resulting. I was also a victim of a so-called incurable disease, and was in such despair that I shut myself in my home, weeping, and wanting only to die. During a severe attack I collapsed, and a physician was called. I was in bed for ten days, after which I went to his office twice a week for five months, but kept getting worse all the time. At last I decided to discontinue his treatments, threw all my medicine away, and went to work to get money for an operation.
In the meantime I read Science and Health spasmodically. My husband was opposed to Christian Science, so I did not turn to it for help until I began to feel another attack coming on. Finally, the condition got so much worse that I telephoned my friend to get help for me from a practitioner. I was no better that night, so I called the practitioner and asked her to come to see me, which she did. I was told to repeat the Lord's Prayer silently, and I obeyed. In one hour I was completely healed, and returned to work the following morning.
This healing occurred in 1914, and I have been entirely free from both ailments ever since. In the case of the "incurable" disease, all suppuration ceased and I was freed from pain. Words cannot express what I felt as a result of this healing. I had found what I had sought for so many years, the "pearl of great price." Could I fail to be grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who gave all her time for so many years to help mankind out of sin and disease into the sunlight of Truth; to praise God. who revealed the truth to her; and to give thanks for our blessed Master, who opened the way for us?
