"AND IT WAS WINTER"

From the November 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.
Winter lay over the city, lay upon its heart.
"Jerusalem, where is your heart?
Why are you doubting and distrustful?
If I have worked the Father's works
Is it for this that you condemn me?"

At the feast of the dedication
Walked alone the one
Who more than all Jerusalem
Had dedicated word and deed
To healing ministry.
And for this they stoned him,
Stoned, but could not destroy him.

In the temple Jesus walked
By himself, but not alone.
In the porch of Solomon he sought
The Father, Love, tender and warm
Companion, ever comforting and strengthening
His precious Son—"and it was winter."
