THE JOY OF DEMONSTRATION

From the November 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A Demonstration in Christian Science brings great joy. Sometimes in our experience when the tasks of life seem tedious and wearisome, in spite of earnest efforts for peace and harmony through the ministrations of Christian Science, we are troubled by the question, "Why is the demonstration so protracted?" The answer may be that a lesson in patience is needful. Possibly a comprehension of the actual nature of demonstration is lacking.

Are we seeking physical ease from pain, to the exclusion of all else? In pursuance of this objective, are we relegating to the background the more important factor, freedom from wrong thinking? Granting that the former is desirable and certainly not an unworthy aim, nevertheless we must admit that it is the latter, freedom from erroneous thinking, which unfolds the higher joys of Spirit and is the more important element. When attained, it actually comprises in itself the Christian Science demonstration.

So if human endurance appears strained to the utmost, and every avenue of hope seems cut off, let us turn away from material desires and means to our loving Father-Mother God, who is ever ready to lift us into the radiant light of the spiritual recognition of our oneness with Him. The beatific concept of man's perfect sonship with God. immortal Love, attained and retained, is the zenith of demonstration.
