MAN'S INDESTRUCTIBLE LIFE

From the November 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the Bible several cases are recorded of those who have been raised from the dead. Enoch and Elijah did not go through the experience of death, and there is no record of the death of John, the beloved disciple.

These instances evidence an un-repealable spiritual law: that man's life is indestructible. Christ Jesus scientifically and completely demonstrated this law. He based his demonstrations on the realization that God is the only Life, the omnipresent Principle of all being, and that man is one with God. How complete was Jesus' proof! He raised the dead. He resurrected himself. Then he ascended above the material sense of existence, establishing the vital facts that death is an error of belief, that it does not lead to eternal life, and that no one need submit to it.

The understanding of the spiritual idea, the Christ, which Jesus evidenced in such full measure, is the basis of Life eternal. We must individually demonstrate the Christ in our experience, and thus recognize the spiritual, perfect man. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 316): "Christ presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs. Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth."
