THE POWER OF TRUTH

From the November 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus came to the world as the Saviour, revealing the Christ, Truth, enlightening the darkened thought of the people and showing them a richer, higher concept of the goodness and tender mercy of God. He proved that God is present to inspire with confidence the consciousness of men. To Him the heavy-laden can instinctively turn for comfort and peace. Referring to those "which believed on him," Jesus said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The force of this statement continues on through the centuries for those who will comprehend the nature of Love and be grateful for the control and guidance of God. The freedom to which Jesus referred was the illuminated vision of the real man, unfettered by a false sense of existence and its resultant confusion of thought.

Today, in the midst of chaotic conflicts among nations, we find that the spirit of anti-Christ is abroad, and is attempting to destroy the freedom of Christian worship and the liberty and happiness of men. Yet, the Christly influence of the power of Truth remains untouched; it can never be shut out from the hearts of men, because it is divine, eternal, and indestructible.

Under the inspiration of the saving truth, which is always available, we gain a sense of confidence, and, regardless of what our difficulty may be, we find that no material condition or circumstance can separate us from Love's protecting power or from the truth that will make us free. It is our own wrong thinking that gives error the only power it seems to possess. But the power of Truth can break through this mesmerism when thought is at one with divine Mind. Then error, losing its foothold, has no vantage ground from which to operate, no place to exist, and therefore must necessarily cease.
