In early childhood Christian Science came into my life through a friend of my mother's who spent her summers in the little seaport town which was then my home. Mere words cannot express my gratitude to this practitioner for her loving care of our family when we were children. The truth I learned at that time has remained with me through all the vicissitudes of life and is a constant shield and buckler.
At the age of twelve years, a serious illness laid me low for several weeks. Doubtless I should have passed on had it not been for Christian Science. When my brother was eighteen, he was healed of typhoid fever. The healing was not a quick one. Memory recalls my mother's steadfastness until Truth was the victor. What courage this dear mother manifested at all times when the practitioner was many miles away during the winter months and the opposition to Christian Science in the town was great!
Because we could not run to a telephone every time we needed help. I learned to demonstrate Christian Science at an early age. Since childhood two outstanding citations from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy (page 14, line 12, and page 261, line 4) have been most helpful when the way seemed dark.
