Christian Science has been the only help in our home for as long as I can remember. My gratitude is unbounded for the privilege of attending the Sunday School and later of taking part in branch church activities. During the years I have rarely been ill and have never had what might be termed a serious illness. I know it is due to the protective power of Christian Science of which Mary Baker Eddy speaks on page 369 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (lines 23-26). Any problem that has presented itself has been dealt with successfully through this Science.
One hot summer morning as I was riding on a crowded, stuffy subway train I suddenly felt as though I were going to faint, and before we arrived at the next station I felt myself losing consciousness. I had started to repeat to myself "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468) but did not get beyond the sentence, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all," the latter part of which I repeated many times. The power of that truth effected the healing, because in another few moments I was perfectly conscious and felt entirely well the rest of the day.
About a year later I awakened one night with such pain in my back and side that I could not move or even breathe comfortably. My mother was awakened and she immediately declared the truth. Not wishing to disturb a practitioner at that hour, she said, "God is here, and He is just as available to us as He is to the practitioner." We worked faithfully in Christian Science, and in less than half an hour I was completely free. I slept peacefully the rest of the night and went to work the next day.
