When I was ten years of age my mother passed on, despite my entreaties to God to spare her to us. I then turned away from prayer as of no help, and for many years wandered through the wilderness without God. About thirteen years ago, through the illness of a member of the family and a great need of the necessities of life, I was led to the study of Christian Science and hence to the understanding of true prayer.
The children in our home experienced great protection from illness, and in many cases quick healing. One young lad had previously been subject to severe attacks of croup. Of course he was constantly shielded from every possible exposure to dampness and cold. One day soon after we became students of Science he followed, on foot, an older brother who was on skis. The snow was soft, and he became thoroughly wet. His older brother brought him home and the verdict was that that night he would have croup. I had full confidence in God, and when the boy was put to bed I read from our beloved textbook. One little cough was all there was, and that was the end of the error. The same boy fell, with the result that an upper front tooth was driven up into the gum. Fear was expressed that a dental operation would be required, but with the loving work of a practitioner the tooth came back into its normal position.
Many other healings in Christian Science have been experienced by the family. Lack, legal difficulties, unemployment, and many physical ills, among which were severe headaches, nervousness, constipation, and kidney trouble, have been healed; a home has been found also. I am very . grateful to our dear Leader for giving us our textbook, for the church services, the Sunday School, our periodicals, the lectures, and all the practitioners, who are always willing to help. I am also very grateful for class teaching, which was made possible for me when all avenues seemed closed. — Mellen, Wisconsin.
