Testimonies of Healing

From the July 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am grateful for the friend who introduced me to Christian Science. I had heard little of this Science until she came to our house to spend the day. She gave me some citations from the Bible and some from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. These citations were so enlightening that I knew Christian Science was what I had been seeking for a long time. Soon after that I purchased a copy of the textbook and began to study. It has been a constant source of comfort to me. We have had many proofs of God's ever-presence in the healing of disease, the overcoming of lack, and in instances of protection.

I should like to tell of an experience in which I was divinely protected. I drive eight miles to church. There had been heavy rains for several days, and the roads were very muddy. The deep ditches on each side of the road were full of water. I was driving home from church down a long slope when suddenly the car started to skid straight for the deep ditch. My first thought was that God's intelligence and power were in control. I released all mechanical control, closed my eyes, and held to the steering wheel. Soon the car stopped. When I opened my eyes I saw that I was headed in the direction from which I had been coming. The car had turned completely around, a feat which would have been very difficult for me to accomplish on a road as narrow and muddy as this one. I drove back some distance to where I could turn around, then came back over the same part of the road and did not slip at all. I was very grateful for the protection I had experienced.

Another experience which has always been outstanding to all the family was our son's healing of diseased tonsils. He was attending college at the time, and was studying voice. His music teacher insisted that the condition of his tonsils was a hindrance to his progress, and suggested he have them removed through an operation. When the boy came home for the midwinter vacation he thought it was the time to have his tonsils removed. On a Saturday a visit was made to a doctor's office for an examination. The doctor said it was necessary to remove the tonsils, and plans were made for our son to go to the hospital on Monday morning for the operation.
