More than twenty-six years ago I was the first member of our family to take up the study of Christian Science, and throughout the years I have had many demonstrations of God's love and care. Later my parents took up the study of this Science and received many benefits. My mother had a beautiful healing of varicose veins from which she had suffered a great deal, and which had necessitated the wearing of rubber bandages for years. She was completely healed in Christian Science.
It is with humble gratitude to God that I wish to give this testimony of a healing I experienced over two years ago. A dear one had passed on suddenly, and I was struggling with a physical difficulty which developed into a heart condition, making me extremely fearful. I was also suffering from shock and nervous exhaustion. I was confined to my bed for five months, and it was a year before I was able to be among people. But many evils were overcome during this period, fear being one of the greatest. During this time I thought of many things I read from the Bible, Science and Health, all the periodicals, and our hymns. One of the passages from the Bible was of great comfort to me (Isa. 41:10): "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
After spending many months in my room, I wanted to break the mesmeric fear I had of going downstairs. One day I especially wanted to take dinner with a member of my family; I opened my Bible at random to Psalm 101:2, which reads in part, "I will walk within my house with a perfect heart." I went downstairs, and from then on I began to improve until I was healed. Recently I passed a physical examination for life insurance.
