A testimony I read in the March, 1947, issue of The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition) prompted me to submit mine. I too was healed by a study of the definition of "sun" on page 595 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
My healing took place in 1938 during a heat wave. I had never felt so helpless, and could not even understand what I was trying to read in the textbook. Turning in silent, fervent prayer to God for guidance, I was clearly shown that I was apparently suffering from the effects of the sun. Having recognized what the error was, I knew how to cope with it. Immediately turning to the definition referred to, "Sun. The symbol of Soul governing man,—of Truth, Life, and Love," I realized that the ball of fire seen by the material senses is nothing but a symbol, having no power of its own either to benefit or to harm, and that the reality underlying the symbol is God, divine Mind. To me God was so great, so supreme, that all belief in a counterfeit lost its influence upon me. I was instantaneously healed, for as Christ Jesus taught (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." A threatened relapse was averted when I gratefully and joyously sang these words from Hymn No. 133 in the German Hymnal:
In God, what pure delight
These holy strains impart;
The sun of life illumes
The world and warms the heart.
