MUCH thought has been given to the ways of overcoming the divisive beliefs of jealousy, rivalry, criticism, animosity, and fear among men and nations. However, while mankind may seek unity and strength in a pooling of human resources and uniting of human efforts, it is only by gaining a true sense of God and of man as His undivided expression that enduring unity can be demonstrated.
Spiritual man is described in the Bible as the offspring of God. We read (Gen. 1:27), "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Man so created must express the qualities of his Father-Mother, God, such as spirituality, justice, goodness, love, harmony, unity. Then one who understands true unity as a quality belonging to man as God's reflection expresses brotherliness in his daily contacts with his fellow men and promotes harmony, peace, and mutual respect in all his family, business, and social relationships.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, clearly reveals the unity of God's sons in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she says (p. 267): "God is one. The allness of Deity is His oneness. Generically man is one, and specifically man means all men." Hence, the allness and oneness of God are reflected by man, and in this spiritual brotherhood of man is to be found healing from all divisive beliefs. God's ideas express all good, power, wisdom, and substance. A realization of these verities frees from sin and disease and brings dominion over all that is contrary to divine Truth, Life, and Love.
