Testimonies of Healing

Finding Christian Science was for me...

From the July 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Finding Christian Science was for me an answer to prayer. My father had taught me that there was only one Mind, God, and that when that Mind was trustingly relied upon, it would govern all my affairs harmoniously. So when I needed to find a new way of life, I turned to that Mind for guidance and was led directly to Christian Science and also to a loving practitioner, whose wise and true thought has ever since been a shining light on the path from sense to Soul. That was about twenty-six years ago, and during those years I have had continual guidance, protection, and many healings of physical difficulties, including grippe, a strong tendency to colds every winter—now I almost never have one— warts, broken bones, abscesses, intestinal indigestion, and lesser evils. Lost articles have been found through Christian Science, some in remarkable ways.

Christian Science is a way of life that provides continual spiritual enlightenment. A number of years ago, after a quick healing of grippe, I reached out to God one night for a clearer understanding of divine Love. The need seemed urgent, and my prayer was marvelously answered. In the middle of the night I suddenly awoke with an extremely painful sore throat. The pain was so intense that all I could think of was: "God, Love, is All; is here. Only Love is here." Over and over I repeated this in an earnest effort to discern Love's presence and power. Suddenly I became conscious of exquisite beauty and joy, and peace that was power, such as I had never imagined existed. I was instantaneously healed, and then I realized that my prayer for a clearer understanding of Love had been answered and I had been shown how Love heals. The spiritual quality of this experience remained with me for nearly a week, and I have been able to recall it, when needed, with the same healing effect.

During many years, while I was on the advertising staff of a well-known newspaper, I had many demonstrations of divine guidance in business. To begin with, I was aware that, humanly speaking, I was not adapted to the work of selling; so it was necessary to lean radically on Mind for direction. I knew that Mind's purpose was being worked out, and if I would listen for the still, small voice I would be guided to call on prospective clients at opportune times and with adequate preparation. Over and over again this was proved to be true. Once I felt the urge to telephone a client who had many times refused to talk with me. This time the call was effective and resulted later in a friendly conversation that convinced her of the value to her firm of the idea presented. A plan was immediately put into operation that continued satisfactorily for many years. Such was the immediate action of the truth, in contrast to the usual human methods, bulky with time and effort. This and similar experiences have led me to see that without divine guidance such activity is insubstantial, liable to failure at any time, and produces only material results.
