"A WHITE STONE"

From the July 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE sacred privilege of overcoming is individual, not vicarious. This is conveyed by the admonition and assurance found in the book of Revelation (2: 17), "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it." Individual spiritual receptivity and demonstration of the divine nature are here designated.

The manna of truth is fully and finally revealed in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Because it is no longer hidden, eager, alert students of Christian Science do not wistfully look to the future for increased spiritual understanding and dominion, but claim their right to its fuller expression in the immediate present. Thus do they faithfully respond to every demand and bestowal of Truth and Love. So doing, they will find their new name written in the white stone of purity.

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God," said the Master (Matt. 5: 8). The true perception of God brings to light the pure origin of man in God's likeness. From the spiritual standpoint there is no original evil; there is only original good. In Truth's pathway there is no stone or stumbling block.
