I began the study of Christian Science more than twenty years ago when a sister urged me to investigate it for physical healing. For two years I had suffered from a severe stomach and bowel disease, from which physicians said I could not recover. Many different diets and treatments had been prescribed and carried out, but none of them had produced the desired result. When the physicians declared that it was futile to prescribe further, I asked for Christian Science treatment; and I was instantaneously healed. There was no period of convalescence: I began at once to live and eat in a normal manner. The healing has been permanent.
Several years later I was stricken about ten o'clock one morning with a sudden and overwhelming illness, and I thought I was passing on. I managed to get to the telephone and speak to a friend, who sent a practitioner to my home. The practitioner stayed with me all day, declaring the allness of God and my complete perfection as His image and likeness. At nine o'clock that evening evidence of the illness was still present. The practitioner, however, as she prepared to leave, said that the work was done and that I must accept the inevitable good result of the truth understood and declared. I obediently accepted this declaration of freedom and soon fell asleep. The next morning I awakened completely free.
As I was dressing I discovered that another healing had also taken place during the night. A few days before, I had caught my hand in the wringer of the washing machine, badly crushing three of the fingers. Now I saw that the bandage had come off in the night and that the fingers were straight and flexible. Only a slight red mark remained where the flesh had been broken. This also disappeared in a few days.
