With deepest gratitude to God I offer this testimony in the hope that it will help someone as I have many times been helped by reading the testimonies of others. It is more than thirty years since I became interested in Christian Science through my mother's healing of blindness in one eye, following the verdict of an eye specialist that she would never see again with that eve. I was very grateful for this healing and bought the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. At that time, however, I was not ready to accept Christian Science, and the textbook was laid aside.
Later I began to feel the need of something more than I was gaining by attendance at an orthodox church, and I decided to read the textbook, hoping to find spiritual help in caring for my small family and our home. I had been reading only a few weeks when I awakened one morning with an attack of sickness accompanied by a blinding headache. I had suffered periodically from this disorder for as long as I could remember. Having a young baby to care for and no help in the home at that time, I wondered how I should get through the day. Then I thought: How about that textbook? I wonder if it will help me.
I found the textbook and read passages from it as I went about my duties. In about half an hour I felt lifted above all sense of pain and discomfort. Travel sickness was also healed at the same time. Whereas previously I had been unable to take the shortest journey by train, car, or bus without feeling ill, I was now able to travel in complete comfort by whatever means I desired. Throughout the years both of these healings have been permanent. With the writer of Ecclesiastes I can say (3:14), "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever." All medicines were thrown away, and all material remedies were given up. Since then Truth has been my only physician and has never failed. I have had numerous other healings: some that were instantaneous like the first ones, others that have taken much consecrated study and the help of practitioners.
