In the Bible we read (Ps. 120:1), "In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me." Surely my plea to God was answered when a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was put into my hands and I was asked to read the Preface.
I read not only the Preface but also the chapter on Prayer. The comfort I felt and the great sense of peace that came were something quite foreign to me at that time. Many healings followed. A gall bladder condition was overcome. An abscessed ear, which seemed quite alarming, was healed, and our children experienced physical healings.
The study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and the help received from a Christian Science practitioner gave me the necessary strength in solving a grave problem. About a year previous to this a member of my family had disappeared from home, and there were rumors that he had committed suicide. The police department had been notified, but no trace of his whereabouts could be found. Shortly after I had commenced the study of this precious Science, a letter arrived on a particular occasion which disclosed the fact that the member was alive; but the letter did not give his address.
