The study of Christian Science has given me happiness and confidence in good. The happiness springs from some knowledge of the nature of God, learned in the Christian Science Sunday School.
Three days before the birth of our son I fell down some stairs, badly wrenching my ankle. A Christian Science nurse was with me. We repeated the Lord's Prayer and "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) many times. I knew that nothing could harm a spiritual idea and that this truth governed in my experience. I knew also that the ankle could not swell or discolor without my consent. Within an hour I was quite free. The birth of the child was quick and normal in every respect, and there were no aftereffects from the accident.
When our son was five years old, he began to have attacks of bronchial asthma. I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. On each occasion he recovered within a few days; but the attacks recurred and were very distressing. I found I was intensely afraid of a recurrence, and often I lay awake during the night, struggling with fear and declaring the presence of all-encompassing Love until at last I would feel at peace.
