Having received early training in the teachings of Christian Science both in the home and in a Christian Science Sunday School, I learned to turn to God with every problem. Consequently, when I was involved in an automobile accident a few years ago, I did not desire medical aid but wanted, rather, to go straight to my home. A bone in one of my arms was broken, one of my eyes was cut, a cheekbone was crushed, and one of my knees was cut. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and prayerful metaphysical help was given.
To satisfy certain insurance adjustors it was necessary for me to have X rays taken. These showed the broken bone in the arm; but at my request the bone was not set, nor was my arm placed in a cast. The doctor expressed some fearful thoughts concerning the eye and the cheekbone, stating that an operation would probably be necessary before the cheek would return to normalcy.
I refused to accept the material sense testimony or the medical viewpoint, and we continued our prayerful work in Christian Science. During the next few days, I did a complete and thorough job of mental house cleaning in a sincere effort to bring every thought into accord with the law of God, divine Truth, Life, and Love.
