My gratitude for Christian Science could...

From the August 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My gratitude for Christian Science could not possibly be fully expressed in words. Nevertheless, this testimony is offered with the hope that it may help others. I turned to Christian Science after having been in ill-health for several years. Three different doctors had told me that it would be necessary for me to have an operation for chronic appendicitis. This, added to a difficult temperamental disposition, kept me in a constant state of turmoil mentally and physically.

Having heard of this Science through a dear neighbor, I attended a church service and a lecture, neither of which I understood in the least. However, these must have made some impression, for when my health condition finally became unbearable, my husband and I decided it would do no harm for me to try Christian Science.

The way was not easy, and I did not accept the truth without a struggle. I was often discouraged and sometimes greatly tempted to return to materia medica; but since I no longer had faith in this, I persisted in the study of Christian Science, and finally these temptations no longer presented themselves to me. The testimonies in the periodicals and at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings were always an inspiration and gave me the needed incentive to continue to seek the truth.
