THE SCIENCE OF TRUE GOVERNMENT

From the October 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

“GOD has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-goverment, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love." This statement by Mrs. Eddy on page 106 of Science and Health sets forth the way to obtain and maintain freedom for individuals and nations.

Because true government involves the individual, it is vital to us to bring our thought into conformity with spiritual law, or God's will. Christian Science is God's law made comprehensible to human consciousness. This Science unites theology and law and reveals their healing power. Enforced in the receptive thought as spiritual law, divine theology protects and maintains the liberties decreed for man by his Maker. Such liberties include health, freedom of action and thought, security, and the continuous unfoldment of harmony. Obedience to God's law raises the standard of our lives.

Christian Science treatment, or prayer, is the scientific application of divine law to specific injustices inflicted upon human beings when they are governed by mortal mind instead of by the one divine Mind. Human experience is determined by what is embraced in human thought. That is why we should endeavor to bring every thought into subjection to the will of God. When, through Science, we submit to the law of God, we experience the harmony that is man's natural state. On the other hand, when we permit our thinking to come under the control of hypnotic carnal suggestions, we are subject to mental malpractice.
