Testimonies of Healing

To look back forty years to my youth...

From the June 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To look back forty years to my youth, when I was "unstable in all [my] ways" (James 1:8), and compare the unhappiness of that period with the joys and accomplishments which have filled the intervening years makes the difference seem miraculous—which indeed it is to human sense. But Mrs. Eddy reminds us in Science and Health (p. 134), "A miracle fulfils God's law, but does not violate that law." God's law was certainly fulfilled in the change in my experience brought about by my studying and applying the spiritual laws opened to me in the Bible through Mrs. Eddy's revelation, Christian Science.

I left home when I was sixteen, and with no one to control my actions I made about every possible mistake. As we were not a church-affiliated family, I was almost totally unaware of God.

Finally, confused and confounded, sick and tired of the seeming vacuity of life, I met a young person reared in a Christian Science home, and in watching her in the practice of her faith I became interested. In Science and Health we read (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." Apparently, though I was not aware of it, I was reaching out for an explanation of what seemed a pointless existence. My acquaintance with this person was of short duration, but it brought to me the touch that transformed my life.
