Christian Science became a practical religion to me while I was a teen-ager, for I learned then that it offers the answer to all human problems.
One afternoon while working with a group of girls to clear a large gymnasium of heavy, wooden, folding chairs, I caught my fingers in the collapsible section of a chair. Before I was aware of what was happening several other chairs were being piled upon the one in which my fingers were caught. Suddenly my friends realized what had happened; the chairs were removed, and the hand was released.
On leaving the group, I covered the hand and tried to allay the fear of what my fingers would look like.
