Testimonies of Healing

In my teens I lived in a small town...

From the August 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In my teens I lived in a small town where I became acquainted with a Christian Scientist, who truly let her light shine. She explained the Bible more clearly than anyone else I had ever known. She later moved from this town.

When three doctors, one a specialist, indicated to my parents that because of tubercular glands of the neck I did not have long to live, my thought turned to this friend. I wrote to her stating the condition and asked if her religion could help me. Her reply was most emphatic that it could. She sent me a copy of the Journal so that I could pick from the names listed a practitioner near my home. I called on a practitioner, and she told me about Christian Science. I received no further medical treatment, and she gave me treatment at various times. While it took several years to complete the healing, I did return to work shortly after treatment was begun. I had to learn that neither resentment nor self-pity is part of God's man.

In later years, during a term as Second Reader in a branch church, I injured my arm one Sunday afternoon. That night a practitioner had to be called three times because of the severe pain in the arm. On Thursday the thought came to me that I should get someone to take my place on the platform on Sunday. Immediately the message came: "You are at the Red Sea. Go forward." Friday night I prayed for an hour, trying to know the allness, oneness, and all-power of God. I declared that man is the image and likeness of God, that as man I reflected God's oneness and perfection, and that His presence and power were right where the error seemed to be. At the end of the hour I felt a great peace come over me and an adjustment in my shoulder. This enabled me to be on the platform on Sunday, though I did not have the use of my hand. This went on for several Sundays.
